1943 Yearbook Bedford High School IN Photos of Actor Claude Akins’ Junior Year

For sale is the 1943 Pioneer, the yearbook of Bedford High School in Bedford, Indiana. This extremely scarce softcover book contains photos of the students and faculty, sports teams, clubs and other organizations, plus vintage ads and a review of the school year. What makes it most desirable is it chronicles the junior year of Claude Akins, the popular television and motion picture actor. Akins was a very active student-athlete. He is pictured a handful of times, as a member of speech club, dramatics club, victory corps and basketball. He received the BHS Distinguished Service Cross for his speech and dramatic honors and also was a member of student council. Akins
went on to appear in nearly 100 movies and more than 150 TV episodes during his 40-year acting career. Th
is yearbook is in very good condition overall, with several dozen signatures; I do not see Akins’, however. The covers are stained from where they bled onto several pages at the beginning and end of the book (see photos).
