"Two Heads Are Better Than One"
Signed & Numbered
by
famous
American Artist Vic Herman
(1919-1999).
Here,
two Mexican caballeros
(gentlemen) are resting,
watching the world go by
. One man scratches his head as he tries to figure something out. Together they
will figure it out –
As
everyone knows two heads are always better than one
! Also, in this image the textures of the wall and
the seat
are both very representative of the artist's fine art style.
Mr. Herman
was born in Massachusetts, but grew up in Los Angeles where he learned to speak Spanish and nurtured a great love and respect for his Mexican-American schoolmates and neighbors.
During World War II
, Mr. Herman was a field correspondent for "Stars and Stripes" and created the character
Winnie the WAC
for the U.S. Navy. He later created other figures including
Elsie the Cow and Reddy Kilowatt.
His illustrations were carried in virtually all of the national magazines of his day.
The artist was nationally and internationally-known as
"
The Norman Rockwell of Mexico
"
because he portrayed the Mexican people in their own culture, doing their normal day-to-day activities as well as at their special times, just as Mr. Rockwell did for the American people. Mr. Herman often gave his artwork
whimsical titles like "Eating Up the Profits"
,
"
Patience Is the Companion of Wisdom
"
, "A Bellyful Means a Happy Heart",
"Birth of a Tycoon of Manana", and here
"Two Heads Are Better Than One
"
.
The
"Two Heads Are Better Than One" Image
was part of the
"
Many Faces of Mexico Exhibition
"
that traveled extensively in Mexico and the United States under the sponsorship of
both the Mexican and American Governments
. In February 1974,
American Artist Magazine
published its
article
by Frederic Whitaker,
"
Vic Herman: Ambassador with a Brush
", a name by which Mr. Herman also became known. His
artwork is today included in numerous public, private, and corporate fine art collections.
