    Description

Squire by Fender MIJ Vintage Series 1983 JAPAN Export '62 Stratocaster White
Squire by Fender MIJ Vintage Series 1983 JAPAN Export '62 Stratocaster White
Listed is a 1983 Squire by Fender "Vintage Series" JV '62 Stratocaster Manufactured in Japan for Export!
These Exports were considered to be closest to original pre-CBS specification of any Squire JV model, and were supposedly made to spec off of the original blueprints. They are considered to be the very first Squire JV series guitars made and have been viewed as ST-65 Japan domestic Fender Stratocasters rebranded for exportation. They were made for a short period of time spanning mid 1982 to early 1984, this one landing in the middle being manufactured on May 24th of 1983.
This particular '62 JV Stratocaster sports a white polyester finish and 3-ply white pickguard with chrome and plastic hardware. The bridge is Fender branded with bent steel, vintage spec bridge saddles. Removal of the pick guard reveals what look to be original components including a DM-30 3-position selector switch and U.S. made alnico pickups with the numbers 21 written in white on the bridge pup and 22 written on both the neck and center pups. Solder joints look un tampered with and original. From the back you'll see a zinc alloy trem block with three tensioning springs attaching it to a partial grounding plate.
A 21 fret maple neck with rosewood fingerboard is attached with a 4 bolt plate stamped with the serial number
    JV51794.
In the neck pocket you'll find a red D with EX written over it in black, designating it for export alongside a fender branded shim. On the base of the neck is a hand written date "5-25 '83".
There are large white dot inlays on the face and upper edge of the fretboard with vintage style wire frets. At the top of the neck just before the headstock is a well fitted 42mm nut. On the headstock is the gold font "Squire, Made in Japan" logo accompanied by block font black "STRATOCASTER" and "by Fender" in cursive. It has a butterfly string tree and original Kluson style tuners.
The body of this guitar has many dings and dents as well as some scuffs and scrapes as seen in the photos provided but there does not appear to be any cracks in the body itself and feels very structurally solid. All pick guard screws snugged up tightly after getting photos of its underside. Pots are smooth and and function as intended. The 3 position switch snaps firmly into its intended positions though needed a bit of finicking to get proper output in the neck position. Angled TS jack holds a 1/4" cable firmly in place. The trem cavity cover is missing.
The neck is in shockingly good condition with very little signs of wear aside from some faint scuffs and light nicks. The fret wire is well rounded and the fingerboard is pretty clean. The nut is in good shape and has not worn down too far. Tuners are smooth offering precise adjustment and are entirely free of rust or oxidation. There are some finish blemishes on the headstock but it is free of any breaks, cracks or splits and will continue to serve you well.
This is an absolutely awesome vintage Stratocaster and marks an important time in Fenders history. It's leaking tons of 80's Made in Japan Mojo and is just begging for a proper setup from an owner that will put it to good use.
